AmarAchi designs

"Amarachi Designs was created for anyone who appreciates the beauty of the African culture." - J. Udechukwu

Founder and designer, Jennifer Udechukwu of Amarachi Designs

Since she was a young girl, Jennifer Udechukwu knew that she would one day be a fashion designer. The Nigerian native is the founder and the designer of Amarachi Designs, her mother believes that she inherited the talent of designing from her late grandfather.  As her love for African print textiles continued to increase, she had a desire for young men and women to be able to purchase beautiful Ankara pieces at affordable prices.  Amarchi Designs begun two years ago after years of experience in personal styling and designing including her having the opportunity of showcasing her products during the fashion shows at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.  She then begun designing for her peers and others and the rest is history.

1.  Why create ankara jewelry?

JU: I originally started making clothing and then naturally progressed into ankara jewelry. My main desire was to  infuse the traditional culture with more modern styled and trendy clothing.

2.  When someone sees an Amarachi Design, what do they see?

JU:  They see pieces that are versatile and well made. For example, you can wear the top with a different bottom, wear the bottom with a different top or you can mix and match various prints. You can also dress the designs up for an evening out or down for a more casual look.

3. How is the Amarachi collection different from others?

JU: The style and the prices undoubtedly set Amarachi apart as the style of the clothing is simple in design and the prices are affordable.  There are designers that charge customers hundred of dollars for similar items I provide.
The skirts, tops, pants, and dresses I design are all under $100.

4.  A decade from now, where do you see Amarachi Designs?

JU:  I believe my designs will spread all over the United States and go global.
Also I know that my business will help bring awareness to the needs in motherland but will give back to the continent of Africa.

5.  Any words of encourgement?

JU:  Never stop believing in yourself.  I can recall when my mother was not too fond of me studying fashion and desired for me to go somewhere in the medical field and honestely, that was not where my heart lied.  As I was creating my peices and investing time and energy to my dream and passion, I had the priviledge featuring my clothing at the Univesity of Maryland Eastern Shore.  My mother attended and was proud of me and my creation.  After she begun buying all the colorful and beautiful African cloths.  Sometimes you have to believe in dreams before others do.

1.  Describe AGT

KJ/AGT:  Free Fashion.  We express ourselves freely without limitations.  We are big on vintage clothing,

bargainingshopping, and not purchasing high end clothing as well.  Also, AGT is about setting the standard

and not compromising.

2.  As the founder and creator of "A Gentleman's Touch," what is one essential factor that helped birth AGT?

KJ/AGT:  Definitely Christ.  He is the center of the AGT project.  The epiphany of AGT dropped into my spirit my junioryear in college; it was random!  The name itself dropped into my spirit as well.  Ultimately, Christ is one essential factor that created "A Gentleman's Touch."

3.  What is an obstacle you had to overcome to keep the momentum of AGT going?

KJ/AGT:  One obstacle I had to overcome was impatience.  I needed patience to work with the different

personalities.  Also, sometimes I had to encourage some of the men to be confident with their own unique clothing/fashion interest.

4.  What type of influence do you desire for AGT to have in the fashion industry and society as a whole?

"A gentleman is more than the clothes he wears.  It's about confidence in his purpose"- Ms. Mabel Annobil

Founder and Creator of A Gentleman's Touch,  KJ Jones

Born and raised in Phildelphia, Pennsylvania, KJ Jones had an eye for men's fashion. During his junior year in college, his life long passion began to soar to new heights with the creation of "A Gentleman's Touch."  A Gentleman's Touch is not an idea but a movement that will soon be taking the fashion capital cities by storm.

KJ/AGTI desire AGT to challene the fashion industry and society by daring to be different in all angles, even with accepting the calling of Christ over their lives. Also, I desire for AGT to lead people to the Giver of gifts (God).  I believe it is a gift to be fashionable even though it may be seen as ludacris in the sight of many.  God is creative and should not beput in a box.

5. Is AGT open for all men, if so how may they join?

KJ/AGT:  A Gentleman's Touch is a brotherhood created to inspire and build the men's fashion industry and there is no easy or difficult way to join.
